In the interest of public safety, we have decided to close the gallery, cafe and bar from tomorrow (Wednesday 18th March) at Fire Station Creative until further notice. This notice also applies to all of our existing and upcoming studio and classroom bookings. We will continue to review our position according to Govenment advice.  We thank you for the loyalty and support you have shown us in recent weeks.

Willie Hershaw

and Les McConnell

Friday 6th March -

Sunday 29th March

Earth Bound Companions is an exhibition featuring depictions of Scottish animals with artwork by Les McConnell and poetry by Willie Hershaw. The title is taken from Burns famous “To A Mouse” poem and the exhibition features Hershaw’s account of what the mouse thought of Burns:

“Ocht - Silly Man, o futures drear ye tell!
Greet nae for me, greet anely for yersel.”

Each individual work includes a painting and poem mounted separately but in a single large frame allowing the viewer to contemplate both image and text. As well as real life baisties, legendary and fabulous ones are included also. The artistic collaboration explores themes of ecology, environment and Scottish identity.

Fire Station Creative is home to over 30 artists, working in 20 studios. There are painters, printmakers, designers, jewellers, photographers, a textile designer, an upholsterer, an upcycler, an illustrator.

The studios are normally closed to the public but we do host Open Studio weekends twice a year, in June and then November.

There is a wide variety of classes run from FSC - both in the classroom and in artists studios.

If you are interested in learning new skills or refreshing old ones have a look at the classroom page and see if there's something for you.

As well as the creative classes we host groups in yoga, pilates and mindfulness - all listed on the classroom page.

A studio that is made available to groups and private practice offering art therapy in Fife by the generous sponsorship of The Mary Leishman Foundation.

For more information on the groups have a look at the web page and contact the organisations directly.

Fire Station Creative is a facility that was opened by John Byrne in July 2015.

This iconic building was errected in 1934 and housed the Fire and Rescue Service for many years until their move in 2010 to new premises.

It lay empty for several years but thanks to a dedicated group of local business people and artists and the generous support of Fife Council, Creative Scotland, The Roberston Trust, Fife Environment Trust, Barcaple Foundation, Community Union and Educational Institute of Scotland, the facility is now open to the public and available for all things creative!

Fire Station Creative is a social enterprise - all profits raised are reinvested in the property and it's projects - so every cup of coffee sold goes to supporting the arts!

So far - we are delighted to say that we are self sufficient. Lets keep it that way!

Nordoff Robbins is the UK’s largest music therapy charity. Music therapy is an HCPC regulated profession which uses music as a means of communication and self-expression to achieve positive change. Qualified music therapists use music to enrich the lives of people with life-limiting illnesses, disabilities and feelings of isolation.

Nordoff Robbins has open access centres in Fife, Edinburgh, Dundee and Glasgow. The Fife base has been located at the Fire Station Creative since March 2018. Three therapists currently work from this space, providing therapy to individuals and small groups with a variety of needs. We also collaborate with organisations throughout the region to provide services in a range of locations, including both mainstream and special schools, residential and NHS settings. We work closely with staff and professionals and provide regular training opportunities in these settings, to promote understanding, support and collaboration and to provide the best possible service for our clients.

We are very grateful to the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, Fife Council and the Fire Station Creative for facilitating the funding our centre in Fife.
